Just before it fell...
I sent a copy of this film to a friend of mine who is both Cuban and fluent in Spanish. He told me this film was made shortly (proably several months) before the Batista regime fell and Castro took control. This is a public relations film that was showing how well Cubans have it under a capitalist system. The theme of this film is generally "Everything is fine. Enjoy and have fun!" If anything today, you get a glimpse of what Cuba was like before the Communists took power. (I'll wager that some of the cars shown in that film are probably still on the roads!)

Adelante Cubanos (Full Film)
Industry! Working to make the world safe for...uh, communism. This 1959 Cuban film looks no different from any American industrial film of the period. It might seem more different to me if I understood Spanish, which I don't. Visually, it all seems to be about industry cranking out more and more consumer goods so consumers can spend, spend, spend. All for the good of communism, of course. A weird twist on ÃÂwe have met the enemy, and he is us."
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: ***. Weirdness: ****. Historical Interest: *****. Overall Rating: ****.

One of the best films on this site.
(Full film) Words just cannot do justice to this absolutely gorgeous film. Sure, Adelantes Cubanos is nothing but a glorified inflation of Cuban industry, in SPANISH yet. But, the narration is actually quite exciting to listen to, as the narrarator sure puts a lot of oomph into what he is saying. Plus, oh man, the visuals are spectacular. A lot of shots of industry are seen, but not of the typical ones, aka Cars and other household products, we get to see how Beer is produced, FIle cabinets, Wire! Buns! Playing cards! One of the more amazing molten steel demonstrations, and also LARGE strange looking machines doing god knows what. Other industries are represented in the film as well. Of peculiar interest is the Beauty parlor scene, where this woman has SO much makeup slathered on her I was giggling uncontrollably. 1959 Cuba is gorgeously depicted here, with the film HARDLY showing any color fade at all. Great titles too. Just an amazing film.
